an innovative non-profit benefitting New York City youth

The Fertile Grounds Project is a bold, not-for-profit educational organization that aims to provide youth with learning opportunities in unconventional and dynamic settings, to enhance their academic and social development, and provide them with the tools and space they need to build an identity in a world where they belong.  The overarching goal of Fertile Grounds is to reach young people usually left behind by formal educational institutions.  We believe that in order to do so, we must challenge the assumptions regarding what education looks like and where it lives.

There are far too many students who are not being reached in our public education system.  It is necessary to rethink the educational methods we are using and consider creating new structures in order to reach those students

our programs are based on these fundamental beliefs:

  • Young people need to be supported, nurtured, and challenged
  • Young people need learning opportunities outside of the school environment
  • Young people need choice, ownership, and determination over their education
